The Rhopoint MFFT-90 is an industry-standard laboratory testing instrument used to determine the Minimum Film Forming Temperature (MFFT) and white point of water-based materials, including latex, polymer dispersions, synthetic emulsions, paints, and adhesives.

Determining the MFFT is critical for formulators because it pinpoints the lowest temperature at which a coating will properly coalesce into a uniform, continuous film rather than cracking or turning into a chalky, white powder upon drying.

How It Works

• Platen & Temperature Gradient: The instrument uses a nickel-plated copper platen equipped with internal temperature sensors. An electronically imposed thermal gradient is applied across the bar—cooling one end while heating the other.

• Operating Range: The MFFT-90 model operates across a temperature range of -10°C to 90°C (divided into 10 preset temperature programs for precise testing across narrower bands).

• Environment Control: A uniform blanket of dry air or nitrogen flows across the platen through a sintered metal distribution block to prevent condensation or freezing during tests.

• Measurement: Liquid samples are drawn down along the platen using a cube applicator. As the film dries, a clear transition line appears between the cracked/powdery area (cold side) and the smooth, coalesced film (warm side). The operator uses an integrated cursor line on the touchscreen to read the exact transition temperature.
